ISTRIA, SOVINJAK - Agricultural land suitable for olive growing
Sovinjak, a village 8 km southwest of Buzet. It is located in the hills above the middle course of the Mirna River, and the surrounding hamlets of Bračani, Brnozi, Jermaciji, Majeri and the settlements of Pročana, Sirotići, Sovinjsko Polje, Sovinjsko Brdo and others gravitate towards it. The inhabitants are almost exclusively engaged in agriculture (viticulture, beekeeping). The owners of the feudal castle, mentioned in 1195, were vassals of the patriarchs of Aquileia, and then the estate became part of the Pazin principality. A rural settlement developed next to the castle, which is surrounded by ramparts. Of the secular architecture, the granary from 1647, with a stone relief of a crucifix on the facade, and several preserved Baroque and Classicist residential houses and palaces stand out for their excellence. In Sovinjsko Polje there is a small church of St. Stephen, and in Sovinjsko Brdo there is a church of St. Helena.
