In the Middle Ages and later, the area was under the influence of the noble Frankopani family, who ruled the wider Kvarner area. The population traditionally lived in stone houses and engaged in agriculture and seasonal work in the coastal area.
In recent times, Praputnjak remains a rural settlement, but it is also known for its specific dry-wall construction and local cultural heritage, which today is increasingly preserved and valorized through local initiatives.
